Week of February 21st - February 24th

Hello families, This week we had Pink Shirt Day! The students have been paired up with someone in the class to create posters of the other person as a superhero. They need to interview the person and create a backstory/origin story and decide what their super power is. I want the students to dig deep with classmates they haven't spent as much time with to learn something new about them. This task is also encouraging them to talk about the great qualities they see in themselves and to share what they think their strengths are.  Students have been presenting news articles to the class this week and we have started off really strong! This is helping students summarize as well as exposing them to newspaper structure as we have been writing newspaper articles in class. All students have the chance to pick an article at this point so ask them about what they might have chosen and when they are presenting! They have to pick an original article so remind them to email me the link so I can

Week of February 13th - February 15th

Hello families, We spent this short week on a mission to get things done! The students spent time finishing an infographic about a scientific event or technological advancement. If students are not done yet, it is homework for Tuesday . We have been diving into Current Events and Newspaper writing. Students have been assigned a day to research a news article and summarize it. The assignment is on Google Classroom and they need to be taking time to complete it at home for homework! We have been practicing our summarizing skills and reading comprehension to ensure they are prepared for this task.  Grade 6's have been tackling Equivalent Fractions as well as Improper and Mixed Fractions. We have begun talking about how they can order fractions and will continue into this next week. Grade 5's are working through long division and are tasked with organizing their work so they don't make any silly mistakes when things aren't lined up.  We had an awesome presentation called &

Hello families, What an amazing week of Art and teamwork! A huge thank you to all of the volunteers over the week it was so amazing to have you with us.  This week in Arts Commons, we got to experience various types of art and skills. We got to see the physical and technical demands of putting on a performance through our tours which even led us to getting to walk across a lighting grid. As the students made their own art, they played around with watercolour and straws to make monsters and see that they can make beautiful art regardless of mistakes they make. We played a lot of drama games as well which really gave the chance for each person in the class to shine in their own way. Some people worked the lighting, some people made sounds for the play, while others acted and narrated. Everyone has a strength in our class and it was so nice to work together and build our community together. Lastly, we had amazing experts guiding us through different skills. We had Bubba B help the studen

Week of January 30th - February 3rd

Hello families, Our time has finally come!! Open Minds is next week!  A few things to note for our field trip to Arts Commons next week: -Bussing is slightly delayed in the morning and we will now depart at 8:45am.  -Please dress for the weather as we will be going outside. -Pack a lunch, water bottle and bring your indoor shoes. -Students are asked to keep cell phones in their backpacks during the field trip (just like a regular school day). Parents who are volunteering, I will send you a separate email outlining the week. I really appreciate you taking the time to join us.  Aside from preparing for Art School, this week we finished exploring transformations in Math. The students challenged themselves with one last project to demonstrate their understanding of plotting coordinate points, setting up their cartesian plane and performing the three transformations.  In Social Studies the students were given time to learn a little bit more about who the Haudenosaunee are and how they live
