Week of April 24th - April 28th

Hello families, It was a great first week starting our Trickster residency. The students are creating a performance around the theme respecting others. There will be an opportunity to see the performance next Thursday, more information to come from Mr. Lang.  In math, Grade 6 students have wrapped up their understanding of angles, polygons and triangles. They are able to measure with a protractor as well as draw their own angles. They created a quilt on graph paper to show the different angles and explained the angles they used in their patterns. The Grade 5 students have been exploring volume and measurement and have started planting a garden to help with measurement and graphing later on.  In Social Studies we have been exploring the services and roles within local government. Students will be comparing the roles/representation within urban, rural and other local government structures. In Science, students have been practicing their ability to observe and pay attention to important

Week of April 17th - April 21st

Hello families, This coming Tuesday is our last field trip for Arts Commons. We will be attending Step Afrika! which should be a rewarding experience. PLEASE bring in your forms if you haven't yet by Monday or unfortunately you cannot come.  Students completed their essay writing today, woohoo! If they haven't completed their essay, it is expected to be done by Monday. I am so excited to read them, they really have put so much effort into the research and putting what they have learned into a new organized format. We have started listening to the Mars Patel podcast to connect to the Science Evidence and Investigation unit while having them practice their listening skills and comprehension.  In Grade 6 Math, students have been exploring new vocabulary with angles and triangles. Students got to practice using a protractor and measure angles as well. In Grade 5 the students have been continuing their real world fraction math and are beginning to connect fractions with decimals as

Week of April 10th - April 14th

Hello families, I sent home the field trip forms this week. On the form, it says they are due today but if they could be in by Wednesday April 14th that would be amazing. Alien In-Line has been awesome, I hope the kids are having fun. We have one more session next week!  This week students worked on their research for essays. They need to have this done for Monday so that we can begin writing our essays on Monday. We will be going through how to write an introduction paragraph on Monday and they will spend their time writing their own introduction.  This next week is our last week for book clubs. Students will be handing in their book club tasks and receiving a mark for the depth and completion of their tasks. They will have a final task introduced next week.  In Math, Grade 6 students have wrapped up algebra and patterns and we are moving into geometry. We will be learning about shapes and angles. In Grade 5 the students have been exploring area and perimeter as well as fractions in

Hope everyone had a relaxing long weekend! I should have sent this on Thursday so my apologies.  Last week students wrapped up their Chemistry unit. Their concept map for the unit will be due on Tuesday in case they needed extra time to complete it. This should be a quick snapshot of the unit for them to be able to review, should they ever need to. This week we welcomed Ms. Connellan back into our classroom for Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. She will be taking on teaching our next Science Unit, Evidence and Investigation.  In Math, Grade 6 students are continuing their adventure into algebra and balancing equations. Grade 5's spent time in real world math and are looking at mixing measurement (perimeter/area), ratios and fractions creating a real world garden.  In Social Studies we have been learning about the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. To connect this to ideas they are exposed to everyday, the students created a class Charter of Rights and Freedoms that reflects their right
