Welcome to our 2022-2023 blog. We will be utilizing this platform to share all of the exciting things we are doing in the classroom community. Each week, myself or a student will update the learning of that week. Sometimes we may include photos, videos, or student work so please be sure to fill out your media release stating your wishes. This will also be a place to include important dates, homework and to do items. Looking forward to a great year with you and your child!

Week of September 6th - September 9th

We had a great week even though it was only 4 days of learning! We took the opportunity to be outside journaling, looking at natural objects.  In Science, we began our unit on Trees and Forests. We looked at why the forest is important and different ways we use the forest. We explored issues that arise with trees and ways we can protect trees to ensure we have prospering forests. We began the novel "Ban this Book". It has great connections to decision making which will be part of Social Studies this year as well as advocacy. Students also had the opportunity to visit the library and pick out books. Books are allowed to be brought home (I'm really encouraging them to read nightly) and return for Monday's library day.  In writing, we explored mentor texts based on personal stories. Week of April 10th - April 14th

 Hello families, I sent home the field trip forms this week. On the form, it says they are due today but if they could be in by Wednesday April 14th that would be amazing. Alien In-Line has been awesome, I hope the kids are having fun. We have one more session next week!  This week students worked on their research for essays. They need to have this done for Monday so that we can begin writing our essays on Monday. We will be going through how to write an introduction paragraph on Monday and they will spend their time writing their own introduction.  This next week is our last week for book clubs. Students will be handing in their book club tasks and receiving a mark for the depth and completion of their tasks. They will have a final task introduced next week.  In Math, Grade 6 students have wrapped up algebra and patterns and we are moving into geometry. We will be learning about shapes and angles. Week of September 19th - September 23rd

Hello families, Thank you to everyone who came to Meet the Teacher! It was great to connect with you all and see each other in person.  We have been working on our reading timelines this week and the students seem to love it. Although we didn't finish them for Thursday, the amount of time and effort they are putting in is definitely worth giving them a couple extra days to complete the task. I am sure they will be very happy to bring them home in a couple of weeks to show you as well.  In Social Studies we have continued our focus on mapping. This is to ensure they are grounded in understanding Canada, how it is broken up and the different places we will be talking about as we discuss citizenship and government. In Grade 6 Math we worked on comparing numbers this week and rounding.
