Week of December 5th - December 9th

 Hello families,

Happy Friday! We had a great week with the warmer weather.

The students wrapped up their understanding of how rotation and orbit have an influence on seasons and the amount of sunlight we have in a day. We have now started investigating the different planets in our Solar System. They are practicing their ability to pull out information from videos and text and writing it in their own words in point form.

In Social Studies, the students spent the week comparing Ancient Athens to our 4 pillars of democracy. They had to write two proper paragraphs to tell me how Ancient Athens represents our 4 pillars and a paragraph to explain how they did not live up to the 4 pillars of our democracy. It was a great way to show their understanding of both democracies and showcased their ability to dive into the topic on a deeper level.

In Math, Grade 6's completed an activity to demonstrate a well-rounded task involving multiplying and dividing decimals. They created food trucks and had to research the price of ingredients that they would need and the unit price of the things they were buying. Through this they had to find out how they could finance different options for food trucks (for example a small stand versus a deluxe truck). In Grade 5, the students have begun their exploration into long division and how they can connect their multiplication strategies into application problems.

Thank you to those of you who have signed up to volunteer for Open Minds. I will post the link again as there are still spots available to come down and help out.
