Week of January 16th - January 20th

 Hello families,

What a wonderful week of learning. I have had the opportunity to see the Math skills of both the 5's and 6's this week and it has been amazing! We have begun talking about transformations and students have been showing their ability to translate, reflect and rotate polygons. We have spent the first 15 minutes of each math class challenging their mental math strategies in addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

In Science, students have continued to explore space and the students spent the week finding ways to represent their understanding of how the sun shines throughout the day. We had an experiment making sundials and testing them throughout the day.

In Social Studies we have started our new unit about the Iroquois Confederacy. The students are starting to venture into the idea of consensus. We read Hiawatha and the Peacemaker which has a lot of quality connections to our Social Studies curriculum.

Thank you for everyone trying to get volunteers for our Open Minds/everyone going in to get their police check!

Have a wonderful weekend!
