Week of February 27th - March 3rd

 Hello families,

What an exciting week! We had another "Take Me Outside Day" on Thursday where the students got to spend the afternoon in the beautiful weather. It was so nice to see the students experimenting with art and building while they got fresh air and interact with everyone in the school.

This week students have been formally practicing their newspaper writing skills. You can view their two practice pieces on Google Classroom, although some students have this to do for homework still. The idea is this is supposed to be a timed writing practice (especially for the 6's who need to write these for PATs). We will be continuing this into next week and having our last timed practice end of next week.

Grade 6's in Math have created a flipgrid on Google Classroom to show their understanding of fractions and summarize everything they have been learning. We will be moving into decimals and percentage and how the three all relate together in the coming weeks. Grade 5's have moved into fractions themselves and have been working toward their understanding of equivalent fractions.

We have started our Chemistry unit this week! I think the students are excited for a little more of a hands on unit. We will be exploring experiments a little more and how to structure the scientific method. In Social Studies the students have been working on a presentation of the Iroquois Confederacy. They will not be presenting this as the instructions make this a very similar presentation for all of them, but it will be a good practice in following instructions and organizing information. This will provide a good summary of the unit and the practices in their government system.

Upcoming Dates:
